Di Yi Sushi house, which is located at ‘No.9, Ln. 302, Nanjing W. Rd., Datong Dist., Taipei City 103’, has more than 50 years history in Dadaocheng. Although the interior design is simple, the clean environment, fresh food, cordial service, and friendly atmosphere are the reasons that attract the customers. Also, the Di Yi Suhi is the first sushi store to be rewarded for ‘Independent Management Certificate’ from Department of Health, Taipei City Government. There are various cuisines serving in the restaurant, including meat over rice (NT$100-300), combo bento (NT$100-350), sushi (NT$70-250), salad (NT$80-150), soup, tempura (NT$160), oden, and other Japanese BBQ (NT$120-300). Moreover, if you like hotpot, it will be served during the winter season.

 

Xiao Xiang Ting

Starting at 20 years ago, the Xiao Xiang Ting was opened by current owner’s mother, who received Japanese education and learned Japanese cuisine during Japanese Colonial Period in Taiwan.

Operating in Vendor-like style, the customer can jollily stroll in the alley and choose their favorite food, including oden, sushi, miso soup, and sashimi, from the vendors. Moreover, don’t forget out their ‘Dou Qian’, which is the most popular food in Xiao Xiang Ting. Although the restaurant is not as delicate as the Kaiseki-ryoi, the food is definitely worth the price you spend.

 

Ju Yuan Japanese Restaurant

Locating at the intersection of Minsheng W. Rd. & Yanping N. Rd., the two-storied Ju Yuan Japanese restaurant, which is the largest Japanese restaurant in Taipei, was started in 1978. The spacious environment is suitable for any kind of large gathering, such as, wedding ceremony, birthday party, and graduation dinner. The delicate Oden cuisine and palatable Chinese food are their main diet. The combo meal starts from as low as NT$200-NT$300 and the 12 people prix fixe goes from NT$4000.

Li Jia Xiang milkfish is located in NingXia Night Market. For the past 30 years, despite the simple décor and advertisement of the stall, the owner was still able to make his way to the great success by his unique cooking skills.

 

Taipei Circle (Chien-Cheng Circle)

The Taipei Circle or Chien-Cheng Circle was once a bustling food market and a city landmark in Datong district of Taipei. The original night market was a circular structure located on a roundabout between Nanjing West Road and Chongqing North Road. It covered an area of 1,722 square meters and dated to the Japanese colonial era. The Taipei Circle existed 96 years from its opening during the Japanese colonial era, to its official closing on Sunday, July 2, 2006 after years of decline in resulting from two conflagrations in the 1990s and an unsuccessful project to revitalize the market in 2003. After some re-planning, it was set to reopen in June 2009, but as of 2010 the reopening date is uncertain.

 

Co Tea House

Yi Mian Wang

There is always a continuous stream of people come here just to have a bowl of noodle. The Yi Mian Wang was originally a traditional breakfast restaurant before they found out that ‘Yi Mian’ became more popular than their breakfast. The hand-made noodle tastes a bit sweet-and-sour and a bit spicy with their special sauces. And, this was what established Yi Mian Wang’s reputation in Northern Taiwan.

No.6 Wharf

The No.6 Wharf restaurant, which is sited at the No.113, Sec. 1, Huanhe N. Rd., Datong Dist., is an unsophisticated western restaurant. Despite the limited space, the store was elaborately decorated. Filling with elegant and relaxing atmosphere, the No.6 Wharf is the best place to enjoy a book and music while having a light meal, afternoon tea, homemade cookies, or cakes.

Established in 1934, Bolero was the first western restaurant in Taipei. The owner, Shui-Lai Liao, who acquired his cooking skills from a western restaurant opened by Japanese, named the restaurant after a well-known orchestral piece- Bolero.
Bolero restaurant was not only a favorite spot for literary amateurs and contemporary artists to hang out, but was also a popular restaurant for blind dating.

Operating for more than 70 years, the Bolero western has undergone Dadaocheng’s prosperity and downfall. Thus, come and try out the Bolero restaurant, where you can feast your tummy while having a sip of the abundant history of Dadaocheng.

 

Hai-Pa-Wang Taiwanese Cuisine Restaurant
