Fazhu Gong Temple Taipei

Built in the 19th year of Guang Syu of the Qing Dynasty, the Fazhu Gong Temple is locating at the intersection of Nanjing West Road and Yanping North Road Section 2. The Patron of Quanzhou, “Jihang Fa Jhu Sheng Jyun”, who believed have help the villagers to eliminate Gorgon in Song Dynasty, is enshrined   in this temple.

On the 23rd of the 9th lunar month, this temple will held the most notable celebration of Dadaocheng for Fazhu Gong’s birthday, and many people will come to “Qi Qui” and “Huan Qui”. The “Qui” here means the sacrifices, “Red Qui” rice cake, which is made of sticky rice and flour. “Qi Qui” is to bring the “Qui” back home for good luck. And, “Huan Qui” is to bring two Qui back the following year to return the flavor if you brought one Qui back last time. Moreover, the temple will record your name when you “Qj Qui”, and if you did not return the flavor within the following three years, the temple will put you name on a red sheet of paper and displayed it on the wall, which is also known as “Bi Shang Gui”. They used to have specially made “Qui” rice cake of exquisite decorations with “Pan Tao Da Hui”, “Ba Sian Guo Hai”, “San Xing Zhu Shou”, and “Da Nao Long Gong” as the themes, unfortunately, not anymore.

Chun-Sheng Lee Memorial Church

If you take a walk on the historic Guide Street, you will see a peculiar red brick building standing out. With a human-face-liked red brick structure with entrance as mouth, and the two “Cow ear” windows as eyes, it is the Chun-Sheng Lee Memorial Church.

Born at Xiamen, Chun-Sheng Lee was a Christian since when he was young. On the year of 1866 A.D., he got hired by Dent & Co. from Bain & Company to be in charge of tea’s cultivation and production. After a while, Mr. Lee started his own tea export trade and kerosene sale, which made him juxtapose with Ban Qiao’s Mr. Lin’s family to become the richest family in the North of Taiwan. Chun-Sheng Lee died in 1924 at the age of 86. The Chun-Sheng Lee Memorial Church was built by his offspring in memory of Chun-Sheng Lee.
